Install Offrun
Offrun is one app you drag to Applications. This page covers what it needs, the first launch, updates, and how to remove it.
What you need
- A Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, with Apple silicon or an Intel chip.
- An Offrun account. It is free. You create it the first time you open the app.
- At least one coding agent CLI, such as Claude Code or Codex, installed and signed in with your own account. Offrun does not include them; Connect your agents covers this.
- Git, if you want worktrees. Offrun runs agents in any folder, but a worktree needs a Git repository with at least one commit.
There are two builds. The Apple silicon build has everything. The Intel build has agents, memory and connected apps, without dictation. Dictation also needs macOS 26.
Download and install
- Get Offrun from the download page. It offers the build for your chip when your browser says which one you have.
- Open the DMG and drag Offrun to Applications.
- Open Offrun from Applications. It is signed with Apple's Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS only asks you to confirm the first time.
To check the file before you open it, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the one under Verifying the download.
First launch
Setup has up to three steps.
- Sign in to Offrun. Choose Continue with Google, which opens your browser, or use your email and a password. A new email account gets a 6-digit code by email to confirm it. The code expires in 5 minutes.
- Set up Offrun. Offrun looks for agents on this Mac and lists each one it finds as Signed in or Not signed in. Press Add account to sign one in, or carry on and do it later in Settings.
- Set up dictation. Only on a Mac that can dictate, and optional. Turn it on and macOS asks for the microphone and Accessibility. Apple's speech model for your language downloads after you continue.
When setup finishes, Offrun opens on the Agents view and turns on Launch at login. You can turn that off in Settings, General. Offrun also puts an icon in the menu bar, with Open dashboard and Quit Offrun.
Updates
Offrun checks for a new version soon after it opens and every few minutes after that. When one is out, a banner names the new version, with Later and Update now. Nothing downloads until you press Update now. You can keep working while it downloads, and Offrun restarts when you press Restart now. Every update is checked against Offrun's signature before it installs.
To check by hand, open Settings, General and press Check for updates.
Agent CLI updates
Offrun also keeps the agent CLIs current. A minute after it opens, and every six hours after that, it runs claude update, codex update, agy update and grok update for the ones you have, one at a time. It never updates a CLI while one of your chats is answering. Muse Code updates itself, so Offrun leaves it alone. There is no switch for this in Settings.
After Claude Code updates, Offrun checks any Claude model it has not seen before with one short call on your Claude login, so the model menu only offers models that work.
Where Offrun keeps things
| Where | What |
|---|---|
.offrun in each project | The project's chats, memory and job records |
.worktrees in each project | Worktrees you create |
~/Documents/.offrun/default | The Default project, for chats that are not about a repository |
~/Library/Application Support/Offrun | Settings, your Offrun sign-in, the extra agent logins you add, and usage records |
~/Library/Logs/Offrun | Log files |
In a Git repository, Offrun adds .offrun/ and .worktrees/ to the repository's local .git/info/exclude, under the line # Added by Offrun so its own files stay out of your diffs. It never edits your .gitignore.
Remove Offrun
- If you also want your account gone, open Settings, Account and press Delete account first. That removes your account, dictation history and saved connected-app access. Your project files and chats stay.
- Turn off Launch at login in Settings, General, then choose Quit Offrun from the menu bar icon.
- Drag Offrun from Applications to the Trash.
- Delete
~/Library/Application Support/Offrunand~/Library/Logs/Offrun, and the two tones Offrun adds to~/Library/Sounds:offrun-agent-done.aiffandoffrun-agent-request.aiff. - In each project, delete the
.offrunfolder, and remove any worktrees you no longer need withgit worktree remove(see Projects and worktrees). Delete~/Documents/.offruntoo.
Your agent CLIs and the logins they had before Offrun are separate installs and stay as they are. The extra logins you added in Offrun live in its support folder and go with it.
